A cluster is a series of interconnected computers or servers that appear to end users and applications as if they are one server. Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) allows you to cluster an Oracle database. Oracle RAC relies on Clusterware to connect multiple servers and make them run as a single device.
